Due to the slightly remote location of the new house it isn’t connected to mains water; relying instead on a rainwater collection system from the roof. One of the first things we did when we moved into the house was get the water tested, and after much work (I will save you the photos of me scrubbing the inside of the tank in the dark), we were able to get the water to a potable quality. I will leave it to Eric to provide all the details of the new system, but with the quality of the water now taken care of, our thoughts turned to quantity.
The house currently has a single 25,000 litre tank, but in just a few weeks, over what was a very wet autumn, we were able to completely fill this tank. Unsure of how much water we would need to get through the dry summer months we decided that it would be a good insurance policy to put in a second water tank. Of course, when much of the section has a 35 degree or steeper slope, this meant quite a lot of digging. Over the course of a couple of weekends we were able to dig out a big platform for the new tank. Now we just need to take delivery and cross our fingers for a little more rain!
