Labour Day 2016 – Cape Foulwind

After visiting the Denniston plateau, we headed south down the coast towards Cape Foulwind. Luckily for us, despite the name, the weather was pretty nice.

Nevertheless we enjoyed looking out to sea and watching the waves as the wind started to pick up. We knew that a weather front was heading our way and it seemed that the westerly swells were starting to pick up. As we sat on a rock looking out over the bay having lunch, we started to plan our afternoon.

Our first stop actually just took us in the opposite direction from the car park for the Cape Foulwind track. As the tide was still low, we made our way across the sand towards the mudstone cliffs.

It was incredible to see the contrast from the lush vegetation covered cliffs and sandy bays a short distance away at Cape Foulwind. As we headed out across the sand we passed rounded boulders in the sand and saw waterfalls coming down from the cliffs. We made our way out to the tidal shelf under the cliffs.

Although the rising tide prevented us from getting a closer look at the cave as we weren’t too keen on paddling in the cold water we were still able to get up close to the cliffs and look at all the rock pools that had formed in the tidal shelf.

As the tide continued to come in, we made our way back along the base of the cliffs to the campervan ready to continue on down the coast.
