After a busy Saturday flipping the water tank and meeting with people to talk about updating the kitchen cabinets, we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and head up to nearby Mount Hutt to ski.
The trip out to Mount Hutt is very different from the drive along the Interstate to the resorts in Colorado. From Christchurch you head west on narrow roads through miles of flat farmland before the Alps rise up abruptly. We often find ourselves taking a slightly different route each time we head up to Mount Hutt and this week, after stopping at one of our favourite pie shops for a quick lunch, we came across a quintessential Kiwi view; flax plants and cabbage trees in the foreground and the snow covered Alps just behind.
Despite the sunny weather the slopes weren’t too busy and we were able to enjoy our first few runs of the season. The resort still needs a bit more snow and there were a few icy spots that definitely tested our concentration, but it was nice to get out into the mountains to enjoy the beautiful weather.
