We woke to another beautiful, sunny day and after a leisurely breakfast we left Maureen’s Cove to head further out to Border Island, one the outer Whitsunday Islands.
Our trip to Border Island would probably be described quite differently depending on which crew member you speak to! Despite the sunny skies, we had a strong wind and heavy swells which made for quite a bumpy ride, or so the non-seasoned member of the crew would report. I think Eric enjoyed the challenge of sailing in these conditions!
We arrived at Cataran Bay after a few hours and once one of us had recovered from the bumpy ride we headed to shore to explore Border Island. After talking to the park rangers that were working on the island, we took a small trail that lead up to a saddle on the island.
From the ridge we had great views out across the bay and over the route that we would be sailing the next day. Somehow the photo doesn’t capture how choppy the waves were just offshore.
We hiked back down towards Cataran Bay, marvelling at how calm the sheltered bay appeared after the rough crossing to get there.
We spent a while beach combing before heading back to the boat to cook dinner. By now the sea was flat calm and the wind had died down which meant we were able to get a nice nights sleep.
