From Farewell Spit, we continued on towards the Cape Farewell area. Heading through rolling hills full of sheep, we made our way along narrow dirt roads until we came to a small car park.
We hadn’t seen much information about Cape Farewell and as we made our way up the steep hillside towards the cliff edge we were surprised to find a small platform looking out towards a beautiful sea stack.
We found a sheltered spot for lunch before deciding to go for a walk along the clifftops. We knew we wanted to arrive at our next destination at low tide and so were happy to spend a little time exploring the coastline here, which was surprisingly different from Farewell Spit just a few kilometers away.
In the distance we could see Pillar Point lighthouse and so we set off along the cliffs. The track climbed steeply through a series of pastures before turning into a bit of a scramble up the rocky slope to reach the lighthouse.
From the lighthouse we were able to look out towards Farewell Spit as it curved away in the distance. In the other direction we had great views across the clifftops.
After enjoying the views for a while we made our way back over the cliffs to the car. It was getting close to low tide and so we were keen to head on to our next destination.
